The war on terror

How should Christians respond?

Nick Solly Megoran

Airports are in chaos as a terror plot is uncovered. Suicide bombers bring cities to a standstill. Schoolchildren are massacred in their classrooms.

The rules of war are changing. Across the globe, terror strategies strike cold fear into the hearts of ordinary citizens, as innocent people become legitimate targets for bloodshed. George Bush and Tony Blair have launched their counter-attack, but for many the ‘war on terror’ throws up troubling questions:

• Who really has right on their side?
• How far should we go in protecting innocents?
• How can ordinary Christians influence for good a world dominated by tarnished politicians and brutal terrorists?

And, crucially, how can God’s message of love and reconciliation be heard?

Nick Solly Megoran combines an acute political knowledge with a rich appreciation of the Bible and true stories of hope to demonstrate how Christians can live courageously through the war on terror.

“An indepth analysis from a Christian perspective on the so called global War on Terror is long overdue. As a serving soldier I find Nick Megoran's contribution thought-provoking, challenging and helpful. I warmly commend it."
Major General Timothy Cross
Advisor to the House of Commons Defence Committee

"Nick Megoran is a rare treasure to the Body of Christ--a gifted and articulate thinker with a big heart. He does not flinch at, or side step, the hard issues as he confronts the complexities of the War on Terror and, what seems to be, conflict between Christianity and Islam. This conflict presents us with interwoven issues of great complexity, but Nick has a gift for simplifying without being simplistic. This is a book I will give to many of my friends."
Lynn Green
YWAM International Chairman

“In a world where Christian leaders, President Bush and Prime Minister Blair, have recently taken their countries to war, all Christians need to consider carefully their own response to warfare, and in particular to the ‘war on terror’. Although every Christian will not agree with all the suggestions and examples in Nick Megoran’s book, his practical accounts of the radical power of Christian witness in a violent world present a powerful and inspiring challenge as we each think through our own response to conflict. Applying Biblical examples and principles to his wide-ranging experience of contemporary events, Nick Megoran leads the reader to a deeper exploration of Christian approaches to war and terrorism.

Nick Megoran’s rich and varied examples of the power of the Gospel to bring forgiveness, reconciliation and restoration, even in the most unlikely circumstances, will be an encouragement to every Christian considering their response to the apparently insurmountable problems facing the world today.

The three Study Guides provide material to continue exploring these issues and would form a useful starting point for anyone leading a home group or church meeting on this topic.”
